The Rue St. Honoré is the bellwether of French fashion, where new visions begin and revered classics remain de rigueur. Thomas Pheasant conceived this chest as an homage to both, a modern cabinet with a classical silhouette. It strikes a chord of elegant simplicity. A 1950s form with stepped and canted corners, reworked for Pheasant’s own home, the St. Honoré is really a celebration of great doors and the materials that make them so. The carved Blossom relief recalls a tile on the façade of a 1930s Paris apartment house. An understated key-handle pull and tapered legs, the latter with cast sabots, add a lighter touch.
The St. Honoré Chest is scaled for an entryway. With stylized Blossom doors, it is more unique and less serious. Art can be like that. A decorative tray would make it a unique server for either the living or dining room.
